Akani and Lerato have been married since 2013 and are the parents of 4 children. Akani was born and raised in Ka-Bungeni and has a lot of family in the village and surrounding area. Lerato also grew up in a village (North of Rustenburg, North-West Province). She understands Xitsonga and is growing in her fluency. The Hlungwanes have been an active part of Living Hope Church in Pretoria, South Africa, which is their sending church, since Akani moved to Pretoria in 2012. Lerato has been a part of the church since they were married in 2013. The Hlungwanes moved into their new home in Ka-Bungeni in December 2024.
Ka-Bungeni is a village not far from Makhado in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Like many parts of Africa, the Prosperity Gospel and syncretism between Christianity and African Traditional Religion are both very widespread in the area. Many people will identify themselves as Christians, but few know and believe the biblical gospel. There are very few Bible-teaching churches in the area. Thank you for supporting us in praying for joy in our home, Tshepo’s adoption, genuine conversions, new believer’s growth, wisdom, and gospel opportunities to the praise and glory of Jesus Christ.
